VIEW OF KNYANS ON THE HAGUE

ICC Counsel HE Ocianpo opens today the envelope containing the names of those who were adversely implicated in the deaths during Kenya's post-election violence in 2007/2008. Jurist Muite sets the Legal issues straight and lays political responsibility where it belongs.

Meanwhile Kibaki's cabinet meets to discuss various issues, including
1. The thorny issue of a Local Tribunal---which experts such as Muite believe would be a sham unless there is a new constitutional dispensation and a new government in Kenya
2. What responsibility the previous Electoral Commission should bear over the deaths? (Should there be a Kriegler Envelop?)
3. Presidential Clemency

IS KENYA A LOST CAUSE?

Kenya is a lost cause. 2012 will be worse than what we saw in 2007. There are reasons to make this assertion.
The tigers of freedom of yesterday have all been compromised. Raila and his ODM have been roped in then neutered. They are part of the system, not only in name, but also in action. Unchecked Corruption is not just a PNU thing. If an ODM minister is tainted and has not been sacked, it is because the PM who is from ODM finds him a political holy cow who cannot be touched.
Kenya is a lost cause: The ghosts of post election violence have not been appeased. Those implicated in various offences have skilfully employed Parliamentary Procedures to block the setting up of Local Tribunals to try suspects. Kenyans face the prospects of approaching the next General Election (in 2012) before the victims of the last elections are appeased.
It appears that there may be no New Constitution before the 2012 Elections. The opponents of Agenda 4 are forming ethnic alliances to fit an already evolving Transition Agenda, which can only work if the current President retains his absolute powers by election day. There may be a new referendum on the Constitution, and there may be another BOMAS, but their outcomes will be different because of new Constituencies and Districts!
Even getting a credible Kenyan to chair a transitory Electoral body has become a problem because of ethnicity and transition politics.
When will Kenyan be a Nation and not a union of tribes?

Grand Regency Saga

The Grand Regency (GR) Hotel saga is evolving by the day:

The Libyans have used locals to buy the GR Hotel for them.

The same law-firm (Watengula, Makhoka, ---) facilitated the sale on behalf of both the Government and the Libyans! Interesting?

It is being reported that Hon. Orengo's Office now reveals that the Hotel its Land were sold at Ks 1.8B and not KSh. 2.8 B!

It looks like the President has given the Prime Minister the mandate to clear the mess; Mr. Odinga is chairing a Cabinate Sub-committee on the issue; the Ag Mr. Wako, the embatled Finance Minister, Mr. Kimunya; the Justice Minister Mrs. Martha Karua and Mr. Orengo (the Whistle Blower) are part of the committee.

By doing this Mr. Kibaki is trying to sacrifice the young Hon. Kimunya froma distance---No wonder, all the usual dogs of politics in Central Kenya have told Kiminya to carry his own Cross! When PM Odinga, Justice-Minister Karua and Ag. Wako are through with Kimunya, I believe there will be a unanimous recommendation by the PM's committee to the President Kibaki to fire Kimunya ! And the President will use his pen then--- that is if Kimunya will not have resigned after Hon. Imanyara's expected Parliamentary censor. This happens all the time to every small fish in politics; they are used then dumped.

Do you see how a PM can do the job of an embatled President?

But the bigger question is why Libya needs a prime location in Africa's Key international gateway? Is it the Libya-Uganda Axis and their PanAfrican Dreams? the same axis Moi feared? Why is a Ugandan the Chief Engineer under the new management at GR Hotel?

THE KENYAN REFUGEE

Fellow Kenyans at Home and in the Diaspora,

1. Does it occur to you that by announcing a fumbled electoral tally in favor of the incumbent (President Mwai Kibake) the Chairman of The Electoral Commission of Kenyan (Mr. Kivuitu) has made some of you refugees either at Home (As Internally Displaced Person), in a neighboring country (like those who have fled to Uganda and Tanzania) and in the Diaspora (because they have no home to return to) ?
2. Do you see the sense to work extra hard to avoid this getting worse than it already is to about 500, 000 Kenyans?

3. What can you do to reverse the chaos that threaten to make Kenya another Failed State?

4. What can you do to help those displaced?

5. Do you know that SILENCE does not help in this situation?

6. Do you understand that careless talk in the blogs and chatrooms can worsen the situation?
Let me hear your views on the Next Step.
